Blood From the Mummy's Tomb | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Grant Watson Fiction Machine It does provide that combination of blood, violence, hammy acting, and low-level nudity that fans of Hammer tend to expect. Joel H I can think of two reasons why Hammer Film Productions thought that people would go see Blood from the Mummy's Tomb, because they prominently displayed those reasons on the poster and in the movie, but it's not that great of a horror movie. Yes, Valerie Leon is beautiful, but it's a dull story and no amount of her or fake blood over ripped-throat prosthetics can make it exciting. They also should have told the actors who were playing dead to breathe a little less conspicuously, because it made me laugh every time they were shown. Blood from the Mummy's Tomb is a relic that should remain buried. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/05/23 Full Review DanTheMan 2 It turns out what was missing from Hammer's Mummy movies was the complete disregard of a titular dude wrapped up in bandages, and instead a bigger focus on ancient space sorcery with a perfectly preserved and scantily clad Egyptian queen. The film's production was extremely troubled having to deal with both the on-set death of director Seth Holt five weeks into filming and the loss of Peter Cushing who had to leave to tend to his dying wife one day into the shoot, all things considered, the film isn't half bad and, dare I say, one of Hammer's most underrated productions. Even on a tight budget, the film has a glamorous style, creepy atmosphere and polished look that rivals a lot of Hammer's bigger budgeted productions, however, the film isn't without flaws with plenty of odd cuts and awkward edits permeating the runtime. But it's the exceptional score by Tristram Cary (having composed early scores for Doctor Who, primarily The Daleks which was reused many times) and the acting by its cast that cement this film's excellence. The gorgeous Valerie Leon becomes quite unsettling given her complicated position within the film and the other bit players, Hugh Burden and James Villers especially, all fulfil their roles wonderfully. Blood from the Mummy's Tomb is a tremendously fun, darkly skilful and wonderfully energetic yarn that shakes up the increasingly stale formula for The Mummy. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/18/23 Full Review Audience Member It's another one of those Hammer films that you like watching but you know they're not really that good. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Hammer Studios always spiced up their horror offerings with sex and blood. This very late entry received a double dose of both. While likely not very appealing to younger audiences old horror fans like me will likely be pleased. Recently shown on Turner Classic Movies I'd never seen this film before. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Less than engaging Hammer Horror, although the modern setting has much to do with it as there's less ambiance to the story. Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Though it has one or two moments that are genuinely creepy, along with dispensing from the usual bandaged wrapped shenanigans, this is a pretty uninvolving feature from Hammer, held together by occasional 'Bond Girl' Valerie Leon.
